LFC v Spurs: Suarez is back! (On the bench)

AFTER nine games out Luis Suarez was available for selection again tonight – but he makes his first appearance on a teamsheet in 2012 as one of the subs.

Liverpool scored three in the last game, against Wolves, and all three scorers start tonight – Kuyt, Bellamy and Carroll. It’s up to those three to perform well enough to keep Suarez on the bench and in turn keep their own places, to leave Kenny Dalglish with a selection dilemma he’ll not mind having.

Charlie Adam played a big part in those goals last week and also starts, with Steven Gerrard back in the starting line up having been rested for the game at Molyneux.

Jordan Henderson is left out of the 11, something that hasn’t happened too often this season, and he’s keeping Stewart Downing company on the bench.

Jose Enrique has picked up an injury meaning Martin Kelly returns to the side, possibly on the right with Glen Johnson switching to the left.

Liverpool need the points, having seen Arsenal and Newcastle pick up three apiece at the weekend – but Spurs are in the race for the title and need to win this to keep on the tails of the two Manchester sides.

The fog that was floating around before kick-off has cleared and as long as it stays that way the game is on.

Liverpool: Reina, Kelly, Skrtel, Agger, Johnson, Spearing, Gerrard, Adam, Kuyt, Carroll, Bellamy
Subs: Doni, Aurelio, Coates, Carra, Downing, Henderson, Suarez.

Tottenham: Friedel, Walker, Dawson, King, Assou-Ekotto, Parker, Livermore, Kranjcar, Modric, Bale, Adebayor.
Subs: Cudicini, Saha, Rose, Nelsen, Khumalo, Luongo, Lancaster.

Wanted to bring to LFC fans attention as there is a deliberate misquote of Suarez words making rounds in British press!

Suarez gave a phone interview to Uruguyan Radio 890 on his return and game with Spurs (here is summary in “Ovacion” paper which can be Google-translated):
    http://www.ovaciondigital.com.uy/120207/futinter-623241/futbolinternacional/-trate-de-olvidarme-de-todo-y-ayudar-al-equipo-/

He said that he was too anxious and nervous to go back to play and tried to do everything at once in the game with Spurs, which didn’t work out well and he didn’t enjoy his return as he hoped.
But he needs to forget what happened in the last months and help the team, to play his best.

Says that he was watched by many cameras all the time during the game, but that’s to be expected after what happened. Says he always reacts a lot on the pitch, gestures, argues with refs etc. but now he needs to restrain himself in that.

Says that he is very gratetful for support from LFC fans, that he also got a lot of support from his fex-teammates, many of them black Surinamese (from Ajax and Groninghen), telling him not to worry.

And finally, that’s what he says on his case:

“The reason i never felt depressed is because my conscience was clear, I knew what had really happened. As the saying goes, what happens on the field stays on the field.”

And now watch how Mirror and other papers twist his words:

“The 25-year-old also expressed his dismay with the way the incident was handled.
“I knew what I did and there is a kind of football law that says: ‘What happens on the pitch, stays on the pitch and that’s the end of the story.'”

They turned his yet another claim of innocense into admission of guilt.
Can’t make it up, it’s like in Monty Python – “She’s a witch, she’s a witch, look at her nose” – “It’s a false nose, they put it on me”.

It’s upsetting that LFC fans also believe in that Mirror quote, I hope there is a way to publish the full interview to counteract it.

I think you can add the “Mirror” to the don’t buy the Sun campaign.
